Ralph Schell has served as Jefferson County manager since the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) appointed him to the position in December 2009. Schell, who was director of Community Resources for 12 years before becoming county manager, is responsible for implementing the board’s policies and overseeing the day-to-day operations of one of the largest and most geographically diverse counties in Colorado. His primary duties include recommending the annual operating budget to the BCC, allocating resources to provide quality services to residents based on the BCC’s goals and objectives and overseeing development and implementation of the capital improvements program. Six departments report directly to the county manager, including finance & IT, development and transportation, human resources, human services, parks and the public information office.
