Nicole Ard serves as the City Manager of Greenbelt, Maryland. Nicole leads over 250 full, part-time and seasonal employees who serve an historic city of about 21,000 residents located between Washington, DC and Baltimore. Nicole has over 20 years of experience in local government management, primarily in communities undergoing change. This includes service in Phoenix, AZ; Leesburg, VA; Hillsborough, NC; Dayton, and Dublin, OH, and as city manager of Sandusky, OH. Nicole developed her skills while working in as a management assistant, public information officer, assistant manager, and public works director. Nicole’s career in local government began with city internships in Ohio that led to participation in the annual City of Phoenix Management Internship Program, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious municipal apprenticeship programs. Nicole is also a graduate of the NFBPA Mentor Program, the Leadership Triangle Regional Leadership Program, and Leadership Erie. Nicole earned a BA in political science and economics from Howard University and an MPA in public administration from The Ohio State University. Nicole’s early public service includes serving in Congressional internships and work for the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights as she worked her way through college. Personally, Nicole is a Rotarian and enjoys volunteering, as well as the arts, including kiln formed glass, glass blowing, and painting. Nicole relishes opportunities to learn about and promote the arts in community development and creative placemaking.
