Daniel Mears has been the Assistant City Manager of Bowie Maryland since February 2018. Prior to this position he served as Town Manager of La Plata, Maryland from 2007 to 2018. His earlier municipal management positions included Assistant City Manager and Economic Developer for Hazelwood, Missouri, and as Assistant City Manager and City Manager for Ellisville, Missouri. In addition to over 25 years managing local governments, Mr. Mears served as President of the Maryland City/County Management Association and as a Member of the Board of the Maryland Municipal League. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association and a graduate of the Class of 2011 of Leadership Maryland. He is a current Board Member of Maryland’s Local Government Insurance Trust and often speaks to groups about topics related to municipal management. After being raised in New Jersey, he graduated from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania with a degree in Speech Communications. He earned a Master’s in Public Policy Administration from the University of Missouri in St. Louis.
