Description
Governments in the 21st century must continually adapt and innovate to meet increasingly diverse and complex challenges. This article presents 23 of the “Top 100” programs recognized in 2007 by the Innovations in American Government (IAG) Awards program of Harvard University’s Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation. These entries, covering a range of policy areas, reflect local government innovations indicative of the following trends: a focus on prevention, better governance by network, new uses of information technology and data, and an emphasis on sustainability and conservation. The article concludes by identifying three principles shared by local governments that embrace innovation in an effort to improve citizen services. This e-document is an article included in The Municipal Year Book 2008. You will be able to download the PDF of the article after you add it to your shopping cart and purchase it.
