Successful Public-Private Real Estate Development Process Monday, October 21 1:45 PM - 2:45 PM Join industry expert and IEDC instructor Robin Hunden to learn key steps to effective, efficient, and timely public-private real estate development. Many city officials know what they want, but don’t always know how to get there. Failed developer deals, funding problems and ill-conceived projects are often the root of stalled visions. Rob will take participants through proven examples of what works and what doesn’t. Lesson 1: Well-conceived Project. The first step in developing a successful project is to study and learn what has worked elsewhere and how your market conditions impact the potential for your ideas. Participants in the session will understand the critical components for developing and operating successful projects. Doing your homework first, through quality feasibility studies, sets the stage for a successful development. Lesson 2: Gather Your Funding Tools. Most game-changing projects are complex, tough, and take investment by the public sector through a variety of tools, such as TIF, opportunity zones, and others. Knowing how much you have and what you need in order to get a project off the ground is critical. Lesson 3: A Smart Developer Selection Process. Attracting a qualified developer to your project requires a smart, clean, trustworthy process. Cities and counties often have no idea how to successfully move through these processes and gain the confidence of the development community. As a result, they fail. Learn how to move through this process successfully so you don’t have to start over or end up with a stalled project. Presented by Hunden Partners MODERATORS & SPEAKERSSpeaker: Robin Hunden, President/CEO, Hunden Strategic Partners, Lakeside, MI Determining if a Development is Worth a Public Investment Tuesday, October 22 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM The public sector often wants to develop projects that will improve the quality of life in their community. Private developers often pitch projects and request incentives, but how do you know if the request is worth the investment? Join Mr. Hunden and learn how to assess public or public-private projects to understand if the requested incentive or public investment is justified. Examples will range from hotels and convention facilities to youth and professional sports facilities, as well as mixed-use districts and other projects. and political factors, including cultural shifts and the defunding of school
sports, have led to never-before-seen levels of inactivity and obesity in children
in America, especially those who live in homes near or below the poverty line. Creating
equity and inclusion for physical activity is critically important to the
nation’s health. When children have limited access to sports and physical
education in schools, our community parks and recreation assets need to step in
to create free and reduced-fee play so that future generations develop physical
literacy, inactivity rates drop, and these children reap the associated benefits.
