Description
ICMA conducted the first-ever national survey on local government sustainability policies and programs in 2010 to examine how local elected officials and administrators are working with citizens as partners to advance sustainability goals and change behaviors. The results reveal interesting lessons and statistics for local governments in early stages of sustainability programs. For example, council-manager governments have higher overall sustainability adoption ratings than mayor-council cities and elected executive counties. Also, the research reveals that it’s best to pursue a broad strategy aimed at meeting stated goals, rather than taking a number of disconnected specific actions. This e-document is an article included in The Municipal Year Book 2011.
